Adult Faith Formation        UPCOMING EVENTS

Spiritual Direction

Beth Hicks - Director of Family Faith Formation Ext. 247

“The pure of heart are those who seek God in everything and who never fail to find the presence of God everywhere.”   Joan Chittister, O.S.B.

Adult Faith Formation

God invites all of us to be co-creators of life. We are called to respond to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and to an ever-deepening conversion. As members of Christ’s Church, we recognize the need to nurture each other on our faith journeys.

The primary goal of adult formation is to assist adults to grow in their faith.
To this end, adult faith formation includes:

1. a deepening of our relationship with God;
2. strengthening of our faith to enable us to live our faith in the marketplace;
3. enabling adults to share the faith with their children.

Bereavement Program

Do not let your heart be
troubled and do not be
afraid.
- John 14:27

The bereavement program exists to support individuals going through the grief process.
This is done through phone contacts, letters, and personal visits.
The bereavement program needs people who are good listeners, who would be willing to the bereaved.

Spiritual Direction

“Who is God for me?” “Who am I for God?”

The focus of spiritual direction is on your relationship with God.

“Spiritual” points to the inner life and also recognizes and reminds us that the Holy Spirit is at work.

“Direction” speaks to the fact that you are on a journey, going somewhere.

Therefore, the concern of spiritual direction is “to be able to cooperate with the voice of the Spirit within us and, by obediently listening to that voice, permit the realization of God’s will to take place within our live.” - Francis W. Vanderwall, S.J.

Spiritual direction is done individually or within a group. In individual direction, you meet about once a month with the director. Together, you enter into a prayerful time of being attentive to how the Holy Spirit is acting in the your life. The director supports, sometimes challenges, questions or make suggestions. The responsibility for the directee’s relationship with God is always with the directee.

In group spiritual direction, people meet about once a month to listen to and support each other in seeking God’s desires for their lives. The necessary conditions for the group to work include, the members desire for an intimate relationship with God, the willingness to listen prayerfully to the others, and the willingness to share their own journeys with each other.

Whether you participate in individual or group spiritual direction, the Holy Spirit is always the Real Director.

Sunday Scripture Study

Facilitator - Beth Hicks

Would you like to be better prepared to hear the Word of God proclaimed on Sunday?  Our study group will read and discuss the upcoming Sunday scriptures.   We will learn how to better connect the Word in a more meaningful way to our lives.

Taize Prayer

The desire for communion with God has been set within the human heart since the dawn of time. The mystery of that communion touches what is most intimate in us, reaching down to the very depths of our being.”

(To the wellsprings of joy: Letter for 2004)

Taize Prayer is a time for quiet meditation and prayer.  During the seasons of Advent and Lent we invite you to spend some quiet prayerful time with us.

Bereavement Support Group

Facilitator - Sarah Hegg, LLP   Catholic Human Services

The group will explore the different dimensions of the grief process and discuss ways of coping with loss.   Sarah is an experienced leader of grief support groups.   This is a 6 week program.

Group Spiritual Direction

Facilitator - Beth Hicks

Group spiritual direction is a process in which people gather together on a regular basis to assist one another in an ongoing awareness of God in their lives.  Margaret Guenther says “The art of spiritual direction lies in our uncovering the obvious in our lives and in realizing that everyday events are the means by which God tries to reach us.” You can use this time to learn how to listen, to discern answers to questions, and progress toward greater consistency between your deeply held values and your actions. If you are interested in participating in a group, please call me.

Individual Spiritual Direction

Facilitator - Beth Hicks

Individual direction is the same as group direction, but it is done on a one-on-one basis.   The Holy Spirit is the real director.  The spiritual director simply helps you to listen and discern.  Please call me if you are interested.

“Human improvement,” James A. Froude wrote, “is from within outward.”  It’s when we think that the fullness of life comes from outward within that we start making choices that slow down our development.    Joan Chittister, O.S.B.
