Children's Faith Formation

FAITH FORMATION

The Catechism of the Catholic church (CCC 2223) states that

'Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children.  They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule.  The home is well suited for education in the virtues.  This requires an apprenticeship in self-denial, sound judgment and self-mastery - the preconditions of all true freedom.  Parents should teach their children to subordinate the 'material and instinctual dimensions to interior and spiritual ones.  Parents have a grave responsibility to give good example to their children.  By knowing how to acknowledge their own failings to their children, parents will be better able to guide and correct them.'

While formation in the Catholic faith is the responsibility of the parents, the parish and pastor stands ready to offer assistance in this serious responsibility!

Here's what we have to offer in the coming year

for our young parishioners - 2019-2020

NEW THIS YEAR...

and in alignment with Diocesan Policy...

Every child, youth or teen wishing to be prepared to receive Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and/or Eucharist, MUST participate in some form of Faith Formation.

This includes:

   - children preparing for First Reconciliation, Confirmation, and 1st Eucharist

   - children, youth and teens preparing for Baptism in the Catholic faith

   - children, youth and teens preparing to complete Confirmation (& Eucharist if needed)

Acceptable programs of Faith Formation include:

     - Catholic School attendance

     - Children's Faith Formation - for those already baptized Catholic

     - RCIA adapted for children, youth or teens - for those seeking Catholic baptism and for

those Catholic youth & teens looking to complete Confirmation(& Eucharist)

For example...

Your child, already baptized in the Catholic Faith, who attends public, charter, or christian, school, and is in need of preparation for First Reconciliation, would need to attend BOTH Children's Faith Formation AND Sacrament Preparation for Reconciliation. The same would apply for the child needing preparation for Confirmation & 1st Communion.

Children who attend Catholic School are blessed to receive instruction in the Catholic faith every day and need not attend.  However, parents of these children are also encouraged to grow in their own faith and encouraged to attend Adult Faith Formation from 6-7pm.

Children's Liturgy of the Word -

At both the 9:00am & 11:00am Sunday Masses, children attending these Masses are specially sent out to take part in an age appropriate version of the Liturgy of the Word - the readings - for that Sunday's Mass.

Children in Preschool through Grade 3 learn the important message in those readings and how to live out that message in their daily life.

Registration is not necessary for CLOW - just go up when called.
